Of all the fruits and vegetables summer brings along, figs are arguably the most luscious of all when eaten at their peak of ripeness. Figs are believed to have been one of the first plants cultivated by humans and can be found referenced repeatedly throughout history.

Figs are excellent sources of calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, and copper. They are rich in fiber and are fat and cholesterol-free. Figs also contain polyphenols, antioxidant plant compounds with a wealth of health benefits. Figs can be enjoyed fresh or dried.
