Kudos! June Wellness Champions
This month, we want to recognize three individuals who have served as core team members in the Office of Employee Development and Wellness Services (EDWS) and made significant contributions toward the Journey to Wellness at Georgia State University.
Binita Patel
Binita Patel is a Licensed and Registered Dietitian, who joined the EDWS unit in 2012. During the past four years, Binita has worked as the Wellness Specialist on a part-time basis providing nutrition consultations and health coaching services to Georgia State faculty and staff. She has coordinated special events and ongoing programs, such as First Thursdays Health Screenings, with campus and community collaborative partners. Binita has been serving on the Wellness Strategic Planning Task Force and Wellness Champions Committee for the past two years. During the past year, Binita has served as a preceptor for the Georgia State Coordinated Program for graduate Nutrition students.
In recent months, Binita established the “Wellness on Wheels Outreach Day” monthly services held at the “Big 3” Perimeter College campuses, and she provided nutrition support during the “Biggest Winner” Competition.
Binita has coordinated and participated in many health and wellness challenges. She has been working on the “Live Healthy GSU” Community Panther PERQs Plus Cooleaf vendor pilot, coordinating several “step” challenges. This spring, Binita served as “Team HR” captain and was one of the top ranking participants in the Desire2Move 8-week Physical Activity Challenge coordinated by the Kinesiology and Health Department.
Charlie Safford
Charlie Safford joined the newly restructured EDWS unit in 2009 to work as an EAP/HR Consultant on a part-time basis. During the past seven years, Charlie has worn several hats serving as a Wellness Coordinator on the EDWS team developing and conducting training workshops, developing educational materials, contributing articles for the Healthy Lifestyles e-Magazine, and providing campus consultations and counseling services to Georgia State faculty, staff, retirees and eligible dependents. During the past two years, Charlie has played a key role in working with the Wellness Strategic Planning Task Force efforts.
In April, Charlie was the top ranked “Team HR” participant, logging 6995 minutes in the Desire2Move 8-Week Physical Activity Challenge.
Charlie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who maintains a clinical consulting private practice in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Janet Wice
Janet Wice has been working as an EAP/Wellness consultant on a part-time basis since 2004, when she was initially contracted to teach yoga classes on campus. Janet has been serving as a Wellness Coordinator on the EDWS team teaching yoga, guided meditation, conducting training workshops, and providing campus counseling services to Georgia State faculty, staff, eligible dependents and retirees through FASA during the past twelve years. In recent months, Janet has been a key EDWS team member providing “Wellness on Wheels Outreach Day” monthly services at the “Big 3” Perimeter College campuses.
Janet is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, and Registered Yoga/Meditation Instructor who maintains a clinical private practice in the metropolitan Atlanta area.
Kudos to Binita, Charlie and Janet for being true Wellness Champions helping to create a healthier campus at Georgia State!
